Victoria has that harsh "vic" sound in it. Plus, as much as I try to sublimate it, the image of Queen Victoria rankles this granddaughter of the Irish Republican Brotherhood.

Yes. I go on and on to others about how one association shouldn't be held against the innocent name itself. And I use Victoria all the time in combo suggestions. I even use it myself in a few favorite combos. (Wren Victoria, Victoria Alix)
And now you've reminded me of the lovely Victoria Brooke (who goes by Brooke) as an inspiration! I shall not deviate from the path of light and reason again. :-)
Besides, I've recently fallen in LOVE with the names Victoire and Victorine.
It's just that when asked to choose between Victoria and Julia, I fell back on the sublimated criterea to justify my choice. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
