[Opinions] Alexandria
What do you think of Alexandria for a girl? Do you happen to know if it was a given name for women before the city was named? Just wondering.Do you think it's too long to be used on its own? I prefer it without a nickname. Would you tend to shorten it?I despise Alex do you think it's avoidable? Instead I could live with Ali which I find quite cute and maybe Lexie even though I dislike how it reminds me of "sexy".What is your favorite nickname for Alexandria?Too common? It was in the top 100 for some time which surprises me a bit. Will it drown in a sea of Alexandras, Alexas and Alexis'? Alexander and Alex are out there as well. Will people always think she was named Alexandra? Will people confuse it when they see it written down? It reminds me of all the Chris-names somehow, many of them were common so even if you were named the uncommon Christiana or Christabelle I think you would get confused with Christinas and Kristens all of the time. Do you think it would happen with Alexandria?Do you know any? Do they have problems with their name? How old are they?

The city was named in about 300 BCE, so I hugely doubt if any woman got it as a given name at that time!I would certainly shorten it, and so would you after a while. Alexa is pretty.People will rightly believe that the actual human name is Alexandra. She'll spend her life explaining.

I much prefer Alexandra, I think Alexandria would get called Alexandra quite a lot and Alexandria's a place name for me, not a person's.I also think people might call her Alex. My favourite nn would be Allie.

This is my little sister Leah's middle name. ♥And no, I do not think it is too long to be used on it's own. And no, I wouldn't shorten it if I preferred it without a nickname. And I know a girl named Lexi who is indeed tortured with the nickname "Sexy Lexi". And yes, Alex is avoidable. Chill. Just introduce the kid as Alexandria and that's what they'll call her. And besides, she might WANT to be an Alex when she gets older, and when she decides, you'll have to live with it. My favorite is Alex or Lexi. And no, not too common.

I like it. I think it's a lot better than Alexandra, Alexa, etc. I also like it without a nickname (micknames make it blend in with similar names), although I would maybe shorten it to Andria or something for practicality. NOT Alex, Alexi, Lexi, Lexie, etc.I like Ali. Lexie is too popular IMO, just like Alex, but if you want to use it it's perfectly possible. I know an Alexandra that goes by Ali. I prefer a different spelling, though, because the Ali spelling is too much like the boys name.Fav nn is Andria.I don't think it's too common.Well, it could, but I think it would be able to keep separate if they went by a full name or a nickname that had nothing to do with other Alex names.I seem to remember finding out that one Allie, Lexi, or something I know was really named Alexandria, and being excited, but I can't think of who at the moment. They go by a generic Al- / Alex- nickname, and never use their full name, so I'm not sure about name problems. teenage.

I don't like the -dria part. Alexandra is great, but Alexandria is trying a little bit.Yeah, people are gonna say Alexandra since it's more common. If you need a nickname other than Alex or Lexi how about Sandy/Sandra? They have Xander for Alexander, anyways.
