[Opinions] WDYT of Amanda...
seems to be the only thing my hubs and I can agree on. but I'm just not sure. I like that it isn't very popular (anymore) and the meaning is LOVE. Also my name is Amy...so I like that its an A name.
I already have a boy...Dominic Robert Marino.
Just can't come up with names this time around...due in 13 weeks. and we don't even know if its boy or girl.
thoughts or other suggestions on B or G names that go with brother Dominic and last name Marino? They can't be too trendy or eccentric...my hubs is more a traditional guy (he's Tom)

Well, my name is Amanda and I have mixed feelings about it. I like the meaning and it has an interesting history, but I am one of two or more Amandas everywhere I go it seems. It was really popular from the late 70s through the early 90s. I just wish it were more uncommon. I think it sounds nice with your last name.

just realized my inital post asked for B or G names that go with Dominic. I meant Boy or Girl...LOL

Amanda is actually very pretty and goes well with Dominic. It was quite popular in the 80s, but nowadays I don't think you'd meet a lot of little Amandas running around. And considering you're an Amy, I think it's really sweet that the two names are connected (both have basically the same meaning).Amanda Katherine Jane is a lovely, elegant combo.More alternatives to Amanda:
Amalie / Amalia
Araminta
Amabel
Amaia [a-MY-a]
Amice

I like it, alot
It's my mum's name, but she goes by Mandy, though personally i prefer Amanda. Dominic and Amanda sound nice together

Amanda is a decent name, although I prefer Amandine. As long as she's not Mandy I don't have a problem with it!

EWWWI am sorry it might be a nice for you guys but I just cant stand this name... A man duh always comes to mind. Everyone I went to school with was Amanda (dating myself here) and they always ended up being Mandee, Mandi, Mandy. uck

Me too! Same with Samantha, all I hear is MAN in these names.

Nice. It's pretty, has a sweet meaning, and to me it ever so slightly suggests words like command and demand and mandate, so it has an air of seriousness and verbal power. The only problems I have with it are minor - the likely nickname, Mandy; and the fact that sometimes I really hear the "man" part when I say Amanda. So it can sound phrasey with some words - someone says, "A man doesn't ..." and she turns her head. No biggie though - that happens with my own name too and it's just funny.Amanda Marino flows okay. Gosh, I wish I had such an easy last name to combine with. It sounds dashing with first names so easily.Bridget? Beth? Brandon? Brent? Benedict? Gabriel? Gemma? Georgia? Gwendolyn?

mirfak...
good point re: verbal power. Considering I'm pretty independent myself and a former US soldier...the thought of a name that promote confidence and strength (even if slightly hidden)is a great thing.
And I plan on enforcing AMANDA...NO MANDY or MANDA.
Same with my little guy Dominic. I correct anyone who tries calling him Dom.

It's never been one of my favorite names, but it's passable. To be honest, it kind of reminds me of salamanders.

Pretty name, but dated. However, if it's the only name you both like , use it.
vote up1
I like it, but it was too popular at one time and now it's dated, and that's the type of name that I would avoid, regardless of how much I liked it. But if that doesn't bother you, I would say go ahead and use it, it's a pretty name. But I'd also suggest a fresher alternative, not ever overly popular and not dated, would be Miranda. I like Miranda more than Amanda.

It's dropped significantly in popularity, so it's definitely useable. Though, given the amount of Amandas still around, it may sound dated in a few years. But I think it's a lovely name, will age well enough, and goes nicely with the other names you have.

Thanks Avis.
I agree that is has dropped in popularity...and there are lots of Amanda's still around. Considering I grew up as AMY...and then turned into Amy L. because there were always other Amy's in my class I'm really trying to avoid the popular trendy names. and my husband will not go for anything eccentric at all.
While I LOVE Olivia and Sophia (my other favorites)...I fear my kid would be one several.
So I'm leaning more towards some classics that are timeless.
The other names in consideration are Kathleen or Elizabeth.

any suggestions for middle name.
Right now I'm considering:
Kathryn or Jane.
nothing else has really HIT me.

Amanda Jane is really sweet! Very kind-sounding and warm. Is Kathryn a family name? I'd use Amanda Katherine if possible, it makes Amanda look so prettily formal.Others:Amanda Claire
Amanda June
Amanda Kate
Amanda Faye
Amanda RoseApparently I think amanda looks nice with a one-syllable middle name? lol

yes Kathryn is a family name...My husbands grandmother and my aunt both spell it that way...funny you suggest kate...that was another one on my "mental list". and I LOVE Amanda Rose...but worry bc Rose seems to be the recent "go to" for middle names.
....right in line with Grace.
I'm hearing it all over the place lately.

My first name is Kathryn, spelled like that, and I like it. I don't object to other spellings...just like my own.

Ah, it's the go-to middle name because it is so pretty! What about Rose Amanda for a little twist?
