Read this name today. It belonged to a girl. I think it's pretty. I also like Noa and Noah for a girl.I pronounce it see-a-NO-a but have also heard sha-NO-a.How do you pronounce it?Do you know anything about it? I have no idea where it's from or what it means. Ideas?

I'd say see-a-NOH-a. I'm not sure where it came from... it looks cool though.

Funny - I posted a few days ago saying I liked Shauna and was surprised it's not more popular. I've never seen this, though, and wouldn't have known it was prounounced the same way (less the "o"). I like it, but I think I'd have to go with Shauna here in the US because most (like me) wouldn't get the pronounciation.

It's not pronounced like Shauna, it's sha-NO-a. Well, more like shaah-NO-ah, because Sian is SHAAHN. Sounds way different, if you ask me. I don't like Shauna at all, sorry.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but don't think I am either!I don't know...As I said, I don't know how to pronounce it exactly, but looking at the pronounciation key for Sian, it's SHAH:N... http://www.behindthename.com/pronunciation.phpNote the astrisks on AH and AW and the ":" --- add an "a" at the end (like Shauna) and how do you not get a possible pronounciation that is the exact same as Shauna?

No, the accent means that it's a long and open aah sound, not an aw sound. There's a huge difference.And the -noa part comes from Noa, Noah so it's NO-a.It's Sian + Noah, not Sian + Na.

Sianoa -i've only ever heard it pronounced SHAH-Noah.Shauna -is pronounced SHAW-Nuh.2 totally different names.

I thought SHAW-nah, but SHAW-no-ah/uh and sha-NO-a sound nice. I dun like the 'Noah' part of the name, really.

I've never seen or heard this before! It is kind of interesting. My first instinct was to pronounce it "sha-no-a", the other just seems a bit awkward. I also like Noa & Noah for a girl!

Hmm I also thought about changing the spelling to Shanoa or Shanoah. I don't know...I googled it and there seems to be an actress with the name. After some more googling I found out her mom named her after her friend Sian. And added the Noah because that would have been her name had she been a boy.I actually hoped it would have a bit more of a history and meaning but I guess the meaning could be taken from Sian + Noa/h as in Annabeth (= Anna + Beth) or Annemarie (= Anne + Marie).It's a very pretty name. Her mom was good at making up names, I hardly ever encounter newly made up names that beautiful.
