You live in a house in Argyll, Scotland.
You drive a white Honda Civic.
Year 1 (2010-2011);
Elspet & Lindsey's first year of marriage is an eventful one. A cold winter's night in December, about six months after they got married, they heard a loud thump on the porch of their house followed by a wail. Ellie and Lindsey go out to investigate and they see that a baby girl, only a couple of weeks old at most with a shock of curly black hair and inquisitive gray eyes, has been dropped on their doorstep without any sort of note or explanation. They immediately call the police, and take care of the little girl while the authorities attempt to find any of the girl's relations. A few months later, with no leads, the case is closed, and Ellie and Lindsey develop a deep love for the little girl and decide to adopt her. After months of calling her "the baby," they name her Sophie Imogen.
Year 2 (2011-2012)
In the spring, the barn Scottish fold at the neighboring farm has kittens and Elspet and Lindsey go over to see them. Sophie falls in love with an adorable three month old tabby, who is very fond of her in return. Lindsey and Elspet can't resist the kitten or how much her daughter loves her, so they buy her then and there. They take the little kitten home and name her Oighrig, which means "new speckled one."
Year 3 (2012-2013)
On the way home from her secretarial job in the nearby town of Oban, Elspet accidentally hits a blue British Shorthair cat that darts out in front of her car on a country road. Hysterical and thinking she might have killed it, Elspet scoops up the injured (and still alive, though very irate) cat and rushes him to the vet that she takes Oighrig to. Miraculously, the tom only suffers a broken leg and some scratches, and out of guilt, Elspet brings him back to her house after he's released from the vet's, thinking that after his stitches heal she would take him to a no-kill shelter. However, the tom and Oighrig get along spectacularly, and he takes a real shine to Sophie, Lindsey, and eventually even Elspeth. After a few months, the tom becomes a true member of the family, and is named Angus.
Year 4 (2013-2014)
Angus and Oighrig have their first litter of kittens this year--two females and one male. Oighrig is very attentive to the two healthy girls, but eventually pays less and less attention to the male, who is the runt of the litter. Lindsey and Elspet bottle feed the male, who they name Fergus, and eventually develop a close bond with him. At three months old, the two female kittens are given to loving homes, but Lindsey and Elspet decide to keep Fergus.
Year 5 (2014-2015)
That summer, Elspet, Lindsey, and Sophie take a week's worth trip to the local Argyll Islands. They do an island a day for all 7 islands, and see something unique on each: the migratory birds at Coll, the bays and lochs of Gigha, the Abbey at Iona, the whiskey distilleries on Islay, the deer at Jura, the mountains at Mull, and the gorgeous beach at Tiree. Having not grown up in Argyll but in Edinburgh, Elspet is fascinated to get a tour of the Isles that Lindsey was so familiar with, and Sophie drinks in the sunshine, beaches, and many animals. They are, however, very happy to be home at the end of their trip, and their kitties definitely are too. Just after the trip, Elspet is nauseous, dizzy, and horribly tired. Lindsey and Elspet had been trying for the last year to get pregnant, so they are both elated when Elspet finds out that she is indeed expecting!
Year 6 (2015-2016)
Elspet's pregnant goes by smoothly, and she is delighted to find out she is having another girl! Lindsey is a bit disappointed, seeing that he would like to have a son to continue working on the farm, but after a few weeks he comes around and is ecstatic to have another daughter. All this excitement turns to terror when Elspet's water breaks at 34 weeks. She is rushed to the hospital and their daughter Mia Daisy Young is born two months early on February 12th, with abundant curly blonde hair and grey eyes, the spitting image of Elspet. After a trauma-fraught week in the NICU, Mia is given a clean bill of health and she goes home with her parents. At first five-year-old Sophie is jealous of the attention her new sister is getting, but warms to her after a few months and is very helpful.
Year 7 (2016-2017)
After Mia's birth, Elspet finds taking care of two young children very difficult and decides to quit her job--it really wasn't paying her much anyway, and she felt that she had missed some of Sophie's important milestones when she was working and didn't want the same for her younger daughter. To combat the inevitable boredom that sometimes comes with being a stay-at-home mom, Elspet focuses back on writing, what she had gone to college for. She starts a manuscript for a novel, but finds it hard to finish while taking care of a 1 and 6 year old.
Year 8 (2017-2018)
While shopping in town, Sophie spots an iguana in the front window of a fancy pet store and is enthralled by him. Elspet figures it's just a one-off thing and brushes off Sophie's request with a "we'll see," but it soon becomes clear that it definitely is not a one-off thing. Sophie talks incessantly about the iguana: what she'll name him, where she'll keep the cage, she takes out library books about reptiles and constantly spouts facts about them. Sophie gets the surprise of her life on her 8th birthday--the iguana from the pet store. Sophie decides to name him Jack, after one of her friends at school.
Year 9 (2018-2019)
Elspet finally finishes her novel and sends it to as many publishers as she can find, and to her surprise, a publishing house in London calls her one day and says that they are interested! Elspet takes the train 8 hours south to London and spends a weekend there, meeting the publishers and visiting a few old friends that had lived there. Elspet returns home triumphant--she had scored a publishing deal! She did, however, terribly miss her husband, daughters, and cats, and was very glad to be back.
Year 10 (2019-2020)
Just after her business trip, Elspet finds out she is pregnant again. She is happy to be pregnant, but is filled with anxiety: would this baby be born premature like Mia was? However, her mood is lightened after 20 weeks, when she finds out that she is expecting she and Lindsey's long-awaited boy! Surely enough, like Elspet had feared, she again goes into preterm labor at 34 weeks on April 17th. Their redheaded, blue-eyed boy Hamish Conall Young has a harder time than Mia did: he stays in the hospital for a full three weeks, and is small and sickly for his age. Elspet is very happy that her gorgeous baby boy is all right, but wonders if she could ever have any more children.
Year 11: (2020-2021)
Since Sophie had gotten Jack, Mia had begged for a pet, and so Elspet and Lindsey took her to the local pet store and let her choose. Mia quickly gravitates to the guinea pigs and picks out a docile black and white. Mia, who is completely beside herself with excitement, names her Eithne and she joins the Young menagerie of animals.
Year 12: (2021-2022)
Elspet's novel has gained popularity, and her publisher books her to do a tour all across the UK for three weeks. Elspet loves to travel, and enjoys going from city to city to do readings and sign books, but she misses her children immensely. As always, she is glad to be back when the trip is over, and is very happy that her book is doing well and will most likely do better thanks to her promoting it.
Year 13: (2022-2023)
Lindsey and Elspet recieve a call from Lindsey's aunt that his great-aunt Morag had died. Though he had never been close to his great aunt, Lindsey and Elspet attend the funeral, but to their great shock, a letter from the executor of the will comes. Apparently Great Aunt Morag had had very good luck with investments, and leaves Lindsey 500,000 pounds. Lindsey and Elspet cannot believe their luck. They use a small portion of the inheritance to do some needed repairs on the farm and buy some small extras for themselves (including a new truck), and invest the rest.
Year 14: (2023-2024)
The Youngs against visit the Argyll Isles, visiting each one. Sophie fondly remembers the last time she was there, and Mia and Hamish enjoy their first time there very much. Elspet and Lindsey drink in the breathtaking landscape, diverse animals, and small towns, and wonder why they hadn't come back sooner.
Year 15: (2024-2025)
In honor of the 15th anniversary (and since they didn't go away on their 10th due to Elspet being pregnant with Hamish), Lindsey and Elspet leave their children with their paternal grandmother and take a romantic weeklong holiday to Paris. Elspet had spent many summers there since her mother was French, but Lindsey had never been. They visit all of the famous landmarks, eat delicious food in Parisian cafes, and stroll down the Champs-Elysees hand in hand.
It had been a very eventful 15 years for the Youngs!
