I've known one Nereida (ne-RAY-da) who was born in Puerto Rico. As far as I know, she didn't have a nn.

Are you pr. Nereida with the long i sound because that's the only way you can get to Ida, unless, of course, you're pronouncing that as EE-da. It would work then.

Ida is a perfect nn for Nereida. Nicely done.

I like Nereida a lot, and I think Ida is a fine nn for it. But I do kind of think that if you used such a strong, unique name like Nereida and used a plain nn like Ida, it kind of waters it down.
