What do you think of Martha? MAR-tha or MAR-ta? Do you like Marta?Do you think it'll get popular again? Do you know anyone named this? Too dated?

I don't like Martha or Marta. Both seem very 'boring' to me. I usually love -th- names so this is a departure for me. I don't see it getting popular. It might see a surge of usage but will never bee in the top 20 IMO. I'm in the US

I like Martha, though I've only ever known one of them. The Martha I know, has an older sister with an odd, improbable name, so I kind of think, the parents though, "THIS time, we'll play it safe!Everyone can say Martha!"
As a child, she had the nick-name, Murph.

I like Martha, I say MAR-tha. I don't like Marta as much.I think it could get popular, slightly old fashioned names are coming back around, but I don't think it's dated. The only person I know is my aunts friend who is in the 30s, she is a policewoman and very pretty,

Martha, to me, brings images of a fat old lady, at least in America. It's not common for younger people. I know it's much more popular in Great Britain. Then it makes me think of Martha Jones from Doctor Who.

I love Martha. I work with a Mexican woman named Martha (prn. MAR-ta). The only other Martha I ever remember meeting was Martha (prn. MAR-tha) Davis of the band, The Motels. I pronounce it as the bearer pronounces it. I don't foresee it becoming popular again because it is a bit dated, but who knows. I also love Marta. Between the two, I would be more likely to use Marta.

It's still widely used in South Africa, usually pronounced Marta but spelt Martha. I dislike it: it's always seemed flabby and slow-moving. The only English-speaking Martha I know (with a -th-) is slim, fit, attractive-looking and ... disturbed. So my ideas about her and her name aren't reliable.

I actually really like the name Martha (MAR-tha). Marta (MAR-ta) is ok, but I much prefer Martha. I don't think it's too dated, I don't see it getting really popular again and I don't know anyone with the name.

Martha is way too frumpy for me. It's hard for me to imagine any young person with this name. Marta is much more youthful and pretty.

I really dislike them both and honestly can't see them coming back...

I love Martha. I say it MAR-tha and I think Marta is really pretty also. I don't know anyone with this name and I don't think it'll get very popular in the US.

Love Martha. Not so gone on Marta - reminds me of Martin. Martha will get popular again. I sold a phone to a girl called Martha years ago and there is a woman who works in the University I attend called Martha. Apart from that I don't know any - but I am expecting it to be the next Alice.

I love Martha! I seriously would name a child this, and yes, I think it may make a comeback. It's not very dated, but I wouldn't place it with the name George because of the story book. Martha used to be one of the most popular names in my family, for at least 6 generations. As for Marta, I can't say I'm too fond of it.
My favorite combo is Martha Ann Rebecca, though I also like...
Martha Henrike
Martha Elizabeth
Martha Frances
Martha Sophia
Martha Sophronia
Martha Margaret
Martha Penelope
Martha Katharina
Martha Magdalene
Martha Lavender
Martha Arabella
Martha Azalea
Martha Shenandoah
Martha Rose
Martha Rosalind
Martha Rosamond
Martha Louisa / Louisa Martha
Martha Caroline / Caroline Martha
Persephone Martha
Hermione Martha
Georgiana Martha
Edwina Martha

I really like Martha. It's so warm and pleasant. It's friendly and kind and good at cooking and giving hugs.I don't really like the pronunciation or the name Marta. That t in there ruins the sound for me.I'm not so sure I could see Martha getting popular again. I could see it maybe rising in popularity, but I think the dated/old-lady image is too attatched to it for the time being.

I can't really see Martha coming back, but that may be my own bias as I've never been fond of the name. I prefer Marta – it sounds sharper and cleaner. Martha sounds kind of coarse and thick to my ears.

I love this name. I know one who is 70 and one who is 34 (she hates her name and calls herself Marci.) I prefer Martha to Marta because it doesn't seem as harsh. Although, I do like Marga, but no one around here would pronounce it properly.I don't think it will be popular again, which is great!

I prefer Marta and I pronounce them differently (Martha = MAHR-thə and Marta = MAHR-tah).
It's gaining in popularity here, and I know a few Martas (ages 3,5,22,40s).
