Story: Beauty and the Beast

Little Bertrand was born a few weeks early on a trip of state to Germany. Their families joked, calling him a little German, so Gabriel and Belle decided to give him the name Germain, as a middle name. Bertrand, Honore, and Gaston were all names Gabriel and Belle loved. The entire family is enchanted with little Bertrand, even Coralie and Mathilde. They were never jealous, since they have always been used to sharing attention.
Not long after little Bertrand's birth, Gabriel and Belle had a serious talk with one another, their advisors, and finally Arianne and Florian. They outlined their dilemma about succession, deciding both children were old enough to understand. After days of discussion, Gabriel made the announcement: Arianne would be named Crown Princess at a grand ceremony in the summer. Florian, to the surprise of both his parents, had never thought of himself as becoming king, and had always assumed that the crown would pass to Arianne since she was eldest. When it was explained that traditionally he would inherit, he was actually quite upset, as he had had his heart set on becoming a sailor like his uncle Alban. When it was explained that those dreams would probably change as he grew older and he may actually want to be king, he simply said, "I like being the younger brother. I don't want to have to be the one in charge of everything, and I never will. Let Arianne, she's good at it." This announcement caused a great deal of excitement and some outrage at first, but the people have always loved Princess Arianne, and she is a strong-minded girl who, as her brother said, is good at being in charge. She is excited and determined to be a good, wise, just ruler. Her parents have the utmost confidence in her.
Not long after the ceremony, Gabriel and Belle were bombarded with requests for Arianne's hand. It was only to be expected; becoming heir apparent only made her a better catch. But they married for love, and they want all of their children to do the same. They were rather surprised when she came to them to tell them she had fallen in love with Lord Leo and wanted to marry him. They like Leo and can see he obviously loves their daughter, but they are concerned they are a little young to be making this step. They have therefore decided to allow them to be engaged, but to not allow them to marry until Arianne is eighteen. After all, they are rather young to be becomign grandparents!
