I love Jane. It is classic and sophisticated but doesn't seem tired. It ages well and it is an all around name meaning it doesn't sound like Jane has to be prissy or tough or even plain. I don't get the plain association. I've always thought it was pretty.

Coming in late and to strike a discordant note, I don't care for Jane. It's too generic. To me, it says nothing. Too common for too long, therefore, has no personality. I'm glad I'm not named Jane.

Very pretty; lively and cheerful with enough elegance to last her through her life. Lots of people seem to think that short names are automatically dull: give me Jane over Natalie and Samantha any day!

I love it! It's a timeless classic imo and it's also a name that ages well. It seems to suit very girly girls, but also tom-boy type girls too and not many names can do that.

I have never met a Jane in my life, so it really doesn't strike me as boring or plain. (at least in the overused sense)

To me, Jane is a simply pretty name; it's short and sweet but not bland. In fact, I never make the "plain Jane" association. If anything, I associate this name with Jane Eyre, one of my favorite books.

I don't know what it is, but I see Jane as a little hellion of a name. Like a Scarlett O'Hara type - sweet as pie when she needs to be, pretty, but scheming and smart, driven and tough as a nail. It's got a kind of ballsy Rosie the Riveter energy, and I could easily see a Jane as being an adventurous, loud-mouthed type who gets herself into heaps of trouble and loves it.

I'm not sure where I got that from, because most Janes in books and such are shown as being meek, mild, and domestic - my idea of a Jane is the total opposite.

It's simple, but I find it more interesting for little girls these days than Emily or Isabella. When paired with a more intricate middle name, it can really have a lot of flair. I'd say it's ready for a comeback.

Jane is my favorite girls name! My favorite Jane combo as of now is Jane Easter. I think Jane is a simple classic that will stay in fashion much longer than Kayla or Casey.

I love the name Jane. I think it's beautiful and elegant and definitely not plain. I think it gets that rap just because it rhymes.

Lately I've fallen in love with a lot of classics (James, Jane, George, Mary, Anne..) which I used to dislike (at least Jane and George) but there is something great about them. They are nice!

I think it's pretty. It's not plain or boring, but it doesn't stand out. I like it for a middle name.

I've always suspected that I was Charlotte Bronte in a previous life. Had I been there to name her heroine, the still-waters-run-deep Jane Eyre, that is exactly what I would have called her. Well, perhaps Anne would have been in the running too. But Jane shares Anne's simplicity, depth and wisdom.

ETA: I just wanted to add another plus to using Jane as a fn: you get to have a lot of fun with the mn. Jane Eleanora, Jane Theodora and Jane Augusta are my favorites. Jane Everild too, if you really want to have some fun. Are you interested in any more combo ideas?
