Belle and Gabriel were very excited when they found out they were finally having another baby, and they were thrilled but worried when they found out they were having twins. They were worried how Belle's health would be, but she suffered no complications and gave birth to beautiful and healthy fraternal twin girls. The girls names are intricately related: each has an ocean-related name, a name that means lily, a feminine version of a male Hebrew name, and the name of a saint who was a queen in the 10th century, but each in reverse order of the other. Everyone adores the twins, even Florian, although he was a little disappointed that there wasn't at least one brother for him at first. But he fell in love with Coralie and Mathilde just as all of the family did.
After the birth of the twins, Belle remembered how very important family was adn reached out to her two sisters whom she had not made peace with yet and extended the wish for them to forget the past. Blanche and Victorine both accepted her invitation, as both are getting on in age, Victorine nearing forty and Blanche at thirty-five, and both have long been remorseful for the way they acted. Neither has married, and though Belle offered to arrange marriages for them they refused, thinking themselves too old. Both have decided that doting on their nices and nephews would suffice for them, as indeed they have so many--Jeanette and her husband have two boys and two girls, Etienne and his wife have three sons and two daughters, Gerard and his wife have two sons, Emma and her husband have two sons and a daughter and another child on the way, Henri has three daughters, Leon has two sets of twin sons, Guillaume has a little daughter, and Danielle has had five daughters, one set of them twins. The only other sibling to not marry is Alban, and the family jokes he is one and only love is the sea. With all the children in the family, there is no end of chaos when they all gather together, but no one would have it any other way. All of the cousins play together whenever they can. It has made Maurice extremely happy to have all of his children friends again.
There is only one concern for Gabriel and Belle at the moment. They have been facing pressure from their advisors to name their heir. Traditionally the succession is male whenever possible, but it is not against the law for a woman to inherit. Both Arianne and Florian are intelligent and fair-minded with good leadership skills, and Belle and Gabriel both feel guilty when they think of passing over Arianne for the sake of tradition. However, they don't want to cause unrest among the people, many of whom they are afraid will not be receptive to a ruling queen. But they have a few years to work it out, as Gabriel does not by law have to name his successor until his thirty-fifth birthday.
