[Opinions] Re: Virginia

Surprisingly, I really like the name Virginia. I say surprisingly only because it seems like the kind of name I wouldn't care two hoots about, but something about it really sparks my interest. Maybe it's because I've never known a Virginia. Maybe it's because it perks my old-fashioned fancy through that famous phrase, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" and so it makes me think of serious-faced little girls in sweet 1940's winter pea coats and handwritten letters and crackly black and white movies. Whatever the reason, I really like it.
Virginia Caroline is very beautiful and austere, very proper and upright and stiff. I imagine it written in big, ornate writing on thick parchment paper, and I am very impressed.
A book on naming I read has described Virginia as a strong "Yuppie" name which I wrinkled my nose at, but I rather disagree. It has more of an intellectual vibe to it, more historical and substantial. When I think of yuppie names I think of flat glossy cutout names with a strong 90's vibe and Virginia is for sure not one of those.
