I think
Albert would make an excellent name, it's recognisable and he would rarely meet another his own age. It's a nice twist on the popular
Robert, plus you could tell him all about his namesake.
I'm from the UK where names like
Alfie and
Charlie and
Archie are used on their own all the time, and are extremely popular. However I do like there for there to be a full name, so it ages more gracefully and gives him more options. For example he could choose that although you call him
Alby, his friends might call him
Al or
Bert.
