It just looks more natural to me than Gwendolen, especially since I have a tendency to accentuate my vowels...Gwendolen sounds different and uglier to me than Gwendolyn, which even looks more phonetically Welsh to me...now I don't know which spelling is more legit, but that's just my POV.
