Nope. It's not bad in itself, but the associations with it? It's just plain pretentious.

Hmmm, what associations are there? The only one I can think of is "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down":
Virgil Caine is my name and I drove on the Danville train
Til Stonemans Cavalry came and tore up the tracks again

I think that's the only reason I think of it as Southern.

I think the reference is to the Latin poet. That's the first thing I think of.
