[Opinions] Julian
Opinions on the name Julian? I love it as a potential brothers name for Andreas. However I'm worried about how my family will view it. Ive already heard my dad make fun of it once before, he thinks it is feminine. However, he thought Domininc was weird when my sister chose it for her son, he only calls him "Nic". I dont even want to hear his opinions on Andreas (I'll probably end up with an "Andy" thanks to him). I already know I cant please him, unless I opt for James and Matthew, which I'm not going to. Looking at the popularity rankings for Julian, it is obvious that it has come back into style. What do you picture when you hear the name Julian? I find it elegant and handsome, without being stuffy and too formal. I'd use Julian Edgar in honor of my grandpa.

I think Julian Edgar is a great combo! Also, Julian goes great with the name Andreas. That would make a lovely sibset. I wouldn't listen to your dad. In the end, it's your choice! Don't let him bully you into choosing a name you don't really like. Anyway, I don't find Julian to be overly feminine, but I think the reason some people think of it as so is because of the name Julianne, which as a similar sound.
I love it, and I actually like the fact it's mellow rather than macho, but I don't find it "girly" either. In the end it's up to you, not your family to name your child. Your dad seems to have quite narrow tastes, there's nothing weird about Dominic!
If it's good enough for John Lennon's elder son, it should be good enough for your dad! Who does seem to be a very traditional namer ... but he's had his turn; now it's your turn.
I like Julian; it sounds more intellectual than nerdy, if that makes sense. Julian the actuary, yes; Julian the bus driver, probably not, though Julian has energy. Edgar makes it perfect! Or, of course, Matthew ...

I think Julian is a strong, handsome, masculine name and I like it a lot. Julian Edgar is a very nice combo indeed. Andreas and Julian would make a good sib set imo.
I picture the Roman emperor - bearded, very un-girly-looking - and then my family doctor, who is also decidedly not female. It's a strong and intelligent and yet also quite friendly name, and Julian Edgar is a lovely combo. I expect your dad will get used to it: if not, maybe show him a picture of the Roman emperor?

Julian Edgar would be fantabulous. Truly stellar combination.
I have the same feeling about Julian as you do.
To cure your father, why not show him some of the horrendous BA announcements? Once he sees how far away from his James / Matthew ideal names are now, Julian will seem wonderful to him. Not that I don't think James and Matthew are great names, they are. But he probably hasn't any clue about what is really unusual. And Julian ain't it.

I like it, although it's slightly too popular for my personal use. I think, thematically, it goes well with Andreas, and that Julian Edgar is a great combo.
I think it works for you. Just tell you father that Julian was masculine long before there was a feminine form of it. I truthfully love the name because of all of the reasons you stated and because it gives a leadership atmosphere.
Julian doesn't work for me because of Julian Lennon. My best friend would poke at me forever about it being the Beatles/John Lennon fan that she is.
The name does bring up the nn Jude which was used to replace Jules in Hey Jude because Jules was much harder to sing.

I love Julian! I picture I really sweet and handosme young boy. Julian Edgar sounds good and Julian also sounds good with Andreas
