I don't know how to apply 'hipster' to a name, but I don't think its trying too hard or anything like that. I really like Gilbert, though I prefer Gilberto phonetically. I do think of Gilbert Blythe immediately, but its a positive association. I would give it a 6.5. I would use it as a first name, if you didn't mind some people automatically shortening it to Gill.
