I'm just not crazy about Alexis at all -- for a boy or a girl. It sounds sort of pretentious, sort of like a taxonomic category, and sort of like the phrase "a Lexus." I just vastly prefer Alexander or Alexandra, either way with the nn Alex. I know you're not in the US, but here Alexis is definitely used as a girls' name and would sound feminine on a boy.
