[Opinions] terrible twinset
my neighbor named her brand new twin boys Obidiah Nathan and Ty Nathaniel.
gross, right? I mean, poor obidiah is going to be teased his whole life, and ty doesn't even have a full name (tyler? tylin? come on, people!!) and if they both grow up to hate their names, they can't even go by their middle names, because they have the same effing one!! poor kids.
what do you think?

Ty is fine.
Nathaniel and Nathan aren't the same but yes similar.
Though I do see your point in Obidiah, its horrible.
I'd go by Nathan and Ty.

I agree, she hasn't done them any favours. But for mn purposes, Nathan and Niel would work for me.Ty Nathaniel. Goodness. Ty Nathaniel down, sport, Ty Nathaniel down ...

I don't think that will ever be sung to the child. That's a real stretch.

Not that badI've know twin boys named Taylor and Tyler- that's a terrible twinset. Obi and Ty is cute. And at least they have separate names. Obidiah isn't a name I'd used, but the nn Obi is interesting and fits with Ty. Ty is quite popular right now, especially with Dads. I can't imagine a kid name Ty hating his name. Ty sounds like a jock type name- football player, hockey player, etc.

I don't think it's that bad. I'm not crazy about the idea of using both Nathan and Nathaniel, but at least they're only the middle names and not the first names. Nathan and Nathaniel would be worse than Obidiah and Ty even though Obidiah and Ty aren't names I'd use myself. Ty on its own doesn't bother me, but I think that Obidiah and Nathaniel sound better together than Obidiah and Ty.

Dude, it's Greek for "protector of the new house."
Ancient Greek.:O

The roots are ancient Greek maybe, but I do not think the modern concoction constitutes an ancient Greek compounded meaning. You can't take Alexander's meaning of "helper and defender of mankind," shorten it to Alex and therefore also shorten the meaning. It doesn't work that way.

I was being facetious. I copied and pasted the info from the user-submitted name.

i think you can do that, combine two names for your own meaning....

I have a (second) cousin named Otis- which I think is an old man's name- and he's never been teased about it. Probably because kids don't think of it the way I do- they don't know how "old fashioned" it is. I think Obidiah will do alright- I'm sure he'll get a nickname, besides.I don't like the fact that their middle names are... pretty much the same. It's ridiculous, but the name isn't awful.I don't like nicknames as names, either, but Tyler would probably be shortened to Ty anyway.

What?Obi and Ty. That's cool.
...What's up with your suggestion of Tylin? What is that? Reminds me of Tylenol. I'd rather just be Ty.I think you are freaking out over nothing. Yeah it's not totally cool they're middle names are about the same [but I posted a twinset of Nathan and Nathanel once...] but names like Obadiah are IN right now. The kid won't be teased sitting with his classmates Josiah, Jeremiah, Hezekiah and Elijah. And Ty will hang out with Kai, Jack, and Finn.

I agree with this. Not the worst names.

I wouldn't mind Obadiah, spelled that way. Obidiah is an incorrect spelling. They sound the same, so not too big a deal, it's just annoying. There's no reason to change the spelling. But I think that Obadiah is a cool name.I agree about Ty. It should not be a full name on its own. It should be a nickname for something. Ty on its own is pathetic. And I also agree that Nathan and Nathaniel are way too similar to be used as middle names for siblings.

no way, awesomeobidiah is outstanding. I'm not too crazy about the similar middle name thing, but honestly Obidiah and Ty kind of rocks. I would like it even more if it was Obidiah and Cy, though. Old man country bumpkin names for the win! Is Obidiah an actual Biblical name? It sure sounds like one. Obadiah? Obediah? I rather like Obediah the best.

LOL. I just commented on my cousin's "old man country bumpkin" name (Otis). It totally fits him, too. He's a little he-man, as they said.

Yes, Obadiah is an actual Biblical name from the Old Testament. But Obidiah is a misspelling, as would be Obediah.

Ty is trendy but I wouldn't call it "not a full name". I know a couple of Tys (or Tai or Tye)...it isn't uncommon here. Jye, Ty and Kai are all fairly well known and substantial enough even if they aren't my style at all.Obadiah isn't my first pick either but it isn't completely horrible. At least it is a real name with history. What is horrible is Nathan and Nathaniel as mns.

I love Nathan.Ty Nathaniel isn't bad, but why Nathan and Nathaniel? They're the same name. I know a Ty who's name is just Ty.
