SelwynI am assuming that the girl's parents are Jewish, and, if that is so, they would be at least familiar with Hebrew (unless they emmigrated from the former Soviet Union where the Jewish population was pretty much prohibited from openly learning Hebrew). In Israel , it is considered a "mitzvot" (a righteous deed) for Jewish people to study Hebrew.
