[Surname] Panerai
I happen to be the proud owner of a Panerai watch. Panerai was founded in the 19th century by watchmaker Giovanni Panerai in Florence, Italy. The rest is history.
I was recently stumped on the meaning/origin/etymolgy of the surname Panerai. Any suggestions?

This surname is typical of the Florence (Firenze) area.
It doesn't almost exist outside Florence.
It comes probably from an old professional name "panieraio" or "paneraio": it was a person who made Baskets with osiers.
Than it ends in "i" like many italian suranmes. The "i" was originally
the mark of latin genitive.
