[Opinions] Selena and Serena
What do you think of Selena and Serena? More than "I like it/don't like it" would be helpful. I want to love them, but I can't quite reach that point. Help me to love them or nix them!
I think my problem is that I can't quite disassociate them with Selena the Mexican singer and Serena Williams the tennis player. Not that those are bad associations, just NMS.

I really grew to love Serena.
At first it surprised me because it sounds pretty modern-- probably because of the Serena Williams association-- and a bit on the flimsy-feminine side... but then when I thought about the meaning (serene, peaceful) I really began to admire and respect it.
And I do like feminine-sounding names. Most of my favorite girls names end in "-ah."
I guess I am not as crazy about Selena mainly because I'm Catholic, and the association with the Greek goddess isn't something I'd normally want. ? It's not bad, just not meaningful to me.
Anyway, they are both pretty, but for some reason the meaning and even the sound of Serena is a little more "meaty" to me.

I think they're both soft and smooth names. Serena is obviously serene whereas Selena (less obviously) has the goddess of the Moon. Cleopatra's daughter was named Selene.
I don't know why I said smooth, I just think they are very soft names. I think they would make interesting MNs. As in, they're well known but not expected in the middle spot.
Just try it maybe with some names you like and see what happens:
Laura Selena
Helen Serena (see, tough Helen with soft Serena)
Caroline Serena
Verity Selena
