What do you think of Rita, as a name on its own (not a Margaret)?

Well, I don't like it.
It sounds harsh, maybe because the only one I've ever met was harsh. She was a lunchlady in my school.
And "rita" it also the Swedsih word for "draw", so I have a hrd time seeing it as a name.

Can't say I know many other people who know it, and that includes the majority of Beatles fans I know, who say they are fans but only know the #1 hits and other most famous songs; really annoying, I find.

*angry face* You're not a Beatles fan if you don't know Lovely Rita. It's an awesome song on only one of their most iconic albums of all time! (I own 23 Beatles albums, I'm a little obsessed.

This isn't really my taste, but that doesn't mean it isn't a lovely name. It can easily stand alone and I prefer it than just being a nickname for Margaret.

I appreciate Rita, and it was refreshing to meet a Rita my own age when I was in university - it made me realize how "vintage" the name is. It does have a nice touch of hollywood glam to it, a la Rita Hayworth (and my Gramma-Gramma, as we call her, is a total drama queen too - like "I simply cannot abide chocolate drizzled on a plate with lemon pie on it- that's utter foolishness, take it away" drama queen [actual gramma-gramma quote])
It seems like a high-strung, flitty name. Both my great grandmother and the young Rita I knew were fretful beauties, stamping their tiny feet and tossing their pretty heads over some affront. Which really gives it a thoroughbred feel. High glam, high maintentance, highly beautiful and refined.
