I love it. And I have loved it ever since I saw it on a German athlete years ago. Then I realised it was spelled Silke and loved it even more. I'd use it - but I think it would cause many problems in Ireland.

Silke would be pronounced like the textile, or like silky, so no. Zilke looks sufficiently unusual in English for people to ask about the pronunciation, which is good, but then you'd have to explain why it isn't TSIL-kuh. I like Silke, but only as a nn and only in a German context.

If you live in an Anglo country and plan on prn it ZIL-kuh, you should spell the name like Zilka. I don't like that prn, though. I'd prefer SIL-kuh, spelled Silka. It does look too much like silk for my tastes.

I don't like it, and I don't even see it as a name since it's the Swedish word for silk, so yeah, too much like silk. ;)

I think that it is utterly sweet and not at all pretentious. I have a friend with this name.

I don't see 'Silk' at all, however plainly it is there.

I think everyone who saw it would say Silky.
Knowing the pronunciation I find it stern but attractive.
