What do you think of Nike for a girl? I live in Germany and the name is used quite a bit here. I know three girls named Nike who were all born in 1985, an older Nike who was born in the later 70s or early 80s and have met several others over the years.

Here in Germany we pronounce it NEE_keh.

What do you think of Nike?
Would it work in your country?
Have you ever met one? How did she pronounce it?

How would you pronounce it?
Do you know what the Greek pronunciation is?

I have also met a few girls named Nika. Do you prefer it over Nike? What do you think of it and have you met one?

I like it a lot, but it is more of a GP.

It is too tied to the shoe brand, sadly.

Never, but I did go as Nike one Halloween ;-)

In English, NY-kee

Do you know what the Greek pronunciation is?
In Modern Greek it is NEE-kee, but I'm not positive about the Classic pronunciation.

Well, I'm from Germany too and I think it works in our country because we pronounce the name of the Greek goddess Nike (NEE-keh) very different from the shoe brand Nike (NIE-kee). I think the name Nike is very pretty! But parents who consider it should be aware of what their daughter will have to go through if she ever visits an English-speaking country.

Here, it's pronounced NY-kee. It wouldn't work on a person because of the shoe brand though. I've never met one, but NY-kee is the only pronunciation I've heard. I think that is the Greek pronunciation.
I like Nika, and I prefer it to Nike.

I don't think so. I googled it quite a bit yesterday and the original Greek pronunciation should be NEE/kay or NEE/keh.

I love it. Unfortunately, it wouldn't work so well here. Nike is a popular brand of shoes. I pronounce it NIE-kee.

I haven't met one personally. I think it would work in many European countries - definitely Germany, of course - but not in Australia, where I was born.

I really, really, really, (etc.) like the name Nike, but it's too bad that the running shoe brand ruined it. And I've known for a very long time that it isn't pronounced NIEK-EE.

It wouldn't work in my country, because of the shoes.

....and no, I haven't met one.

I like Nike better than Nika.

Here in the U.S. the shoe company will always overshadow the Greek name, unfortunately. We pronounce it "NIE-kee." I've never met anyone with this name.

I like the "NEE-keh" pronunciation of Nike. While I don't know for sure, I strongly suspect that's much closer to the Greek pronunciation than "NIE-kee."

Nike couldn't work here, but Nika ("NEE-kuh") could.
