Two new additions to the family arrived in the last years of the decade. Matilda and Arthur were very happy to welcome their son. It was Susanna who suggested the name David Arthur. They were not expecting another baby so soon after little Davey, but two years later came a baby girl. Matilda's beloved sister had recently moved to San Francisco with her husband, and Arthur agreed to give their new daughter the middle name Margaret , after her aunt. Susanna suggested the name Lily, after a school friend of hers who died of scarlet fever. Matilda and Arthur agreed and hushed people who pointed out that Susanna and Lily meant the same thing.
