I love Katherine without a nn at all. I know several Katherines, and some of them don't go by a nn. They have relatively few problems with people trying to shortent their name. I really agree with on Kathy, I think it sounds very sweet in its own way. Also, I have a Katherine in my third grade class who goes by Kay.
