It's ok as a nickname for Zofia but I find both dowdy and old fashioned.
I think it is pretty and I am surprised I don't hear it or see it very often given the numbers of Polish people in the Chicagoland area.
It's a glamorous name, but I prefer it prn ZOH-shuh, not ZAW-shah like the database says.
The actual pronunciation is more like ZOH-shah. Polish is my first language and I've known women by this name. The pronunciations here are often wrong on Polish names.
I knew a Polish-born Zosia (zoh-sha) in Australia; it seemed a bit outlandish, but it was memorable. Not being of Polish heritage, I wouldn't use it myself.
I also knew a Basia, which sounded like "basher", and to the English-speaker's ear belied her glamour and elegance.
