[Opinions] Lily
I love this name in an odd sort of way - I never tire of hearing it, but don't know if I'd use it for myself. What do you think of Lily? Too popular? Boring? Favorite spelling (Lily vs. Lilly vs whatever)? Prefer it as a nickname or a full name?Tara's post on Lillian got me thinking about this name :)

I've gone really off this name. It's one of my least favourite legit names now, it's so childish and prissy.

I can understand why you love Lily it's a somehow a irresistible name but a lot of other people seem to think the same ;)
Imo Lily it's cool, innocent and elegant all at the same time and thats why i also love this name. But i wouldnt use it anymore, there are simply to much Lilys out there. But there is still the posibility to use the name Lilian, Lillian or Liliana and Lily as a NN.

It's becoming very popular and fast. I say give it one or two more years and it will surge to the top of the baby name list. I have 3 friends who all had daughters recently named Lily, Lilly. It's pretty if you don't mind a name that is becoming extremely popular.

I've never liked it as a flower name, and Lilian etc have never appealed either. Far too fragile and fluffy for an adult; and adult Lilies have a strange habit of being very domineering, like Violets. That said, a good friend of mine is Elizabeth but has always been called Lilli as that was what her siblings could comfortably pronounce. I's happy to like it when it's hers, but not in general.

I love it and don't tire of hearing of it either. Lily is my fave spelling by far and I prefer it as a full name, rather than just a nn.

I love Lily! Yeah, it's popular but it's great. My fave spelling used to be Lilly but I've changed to Lily or Lilie ( I swap between them). It's nice as a full name but I like it as a nn especially for Lilia and Lilliana. I love it as a mn to my fave girl name, Sarah, so that's how I've been thinking of it lately. =)

I love it, it's sweet, pretty and feminine. It was my favorite name for about ten years and I still love it but I wouldn't use it anymore. First of all I have other top favorites now but another reason is its popularity and the fact that the alternate spelling of Lilly is rising quickly. I have no problems with a top 100 name at all but Lily is almost in the top 20 which is too common, even for me. There'd be at least one other Lily in each and every one of her classes if you ask me. If not there will be a Lilly or a Lillian who goes by Lily. Liliana is rising as well (if you combine spellings it's in the top 100).As for the alternate spelling of Lilly, I hate it with a passion! It looks so unsymmetrical and heavy and isn't as elegant and pretty as Lily. I also fear that soon people will accept it as the standard spelling and spell it Lilly when they hear it. Kind of like with Zoey which is rising and might soon be more common than Zoe. I do however like Lili and Lillie as they look symmetrical to me. Lilli looks bad to me, though.I love Lily and Lilia (nicknamed Lily occasionally) equally. So whether you used Lily or Lilia would make no difference. I'd use Lilia simply because it's less common and she could go by that if there was another Lily in her class. I definitely think it works as a full name, though. I also like Liliana. Lilith sounds nice but I dislike the history of the name so I wouldn't use it. Lillian looks heavy to me but Lilian isn't too bad. Still I don't like Lillian/Lilian much.

I used to find Lily (this spelling only) fresh and appealing. That is until I saw it on every other poll / thread. Sorry, but I'm up to my ear lobes in Lily. It's turning into the Emily of the 00's. I'd still be happy to meet a young Lily and be grateful her name wasn't Brayleigh or Frederick or Lyleigh. but I'd also be wishing her parents had chosen something else like Ivy or Lila or Sylvie.

I'm sick of Lily. It's too popular, frilly and cutesy.
