I write this entry with joy in my heart, for today we have welcomed my first child, a daughter. She is the most beautiful sight my eyes have behold since they first laid eyes on her mother on our wedding day. She has been named Princess Amelie, and has stolen my breath away.
My court is full of disappointment at her birth however. In truth, they were (and I too if I am to be honest) were hoping for a son who would become the new crown prince. The need for an heir to my throne has become a weight on our shoulders as we all can see that the heir presumptive, my brother Christophe, would not be suited to rule should something happen to me. He is a egotistical man, to the point of narrcisim and thinks himself invincible, such a change from the kind demeanor of his youth. If he were to rule, I shudder to think of what would happen to my people as his first priority is, and I fear will always be, himself.
We have arranged a marriage for him to a strong willed girl from a neighbouring kingdom to the south, Irnys. Princess Emmanuelle is the youngest daughter of the House of Labelle, and her Father has become a strong Caranethian friend. King Victor has raised a strong daughter in Emmanuelle and I have faith in her that she will be a perfect match for Christophe, both in body and in wit.
I can only prey to the gods that Christophe's match comes to fruitian as well as the match made for my dear sister Concordia. Concordia was married only two moons ago to the Crown Prince of Oleander, a kingdom rich in resources located four weeks horseride from Caraneth, though this is reduced to only one week by sea. Her husband, Lysander, is a kind and fair man whom my siblings and I have known since childhood. The match was an easy one as, not only is it a match that will benefit Caraneth greatly, but the love the Corncordia and Lysander share is as true as the love I have for my own beautiful Bella.
Mother is so proud of us all, and maintains the strength and conviction she has had in all of us (even Christophe...) since our Father's death twelve long years ago. She glows with joy at the King I have become, and the Queen that she knows Concordia will be when the time comes. I do think that Christophe worries her, but she loves him neverless. As for the twins, they are precotious boys with ready laughs and bring a lot of joy into our homes. As a gradmother to my little princess, I have no doubt that she will have so much wisdom to share with her and I can forsee a strong bond forming.
I must return to my Bella, and our little girl.
In life and in death,
Laurent
