I also think Riley works for either gender, but I don't think you have to spell it differently for a girl. I will say, though, that I would like to see it on a boy. A lot of girls seemed to be given surnames as first names these days, but not so many boys. I wonder why that is?
And yes, Ashabelle is terrible. Frilly and invented by the parents; basically, the worst combination ever.
