[Opinions] Middle name for Margaret?
My husband and I are planning to use Margaret for our first daughter's first name. (We're not expecting yet, I just like to think about names!). We want to use one family name for each of our children, but in most cases those will be in the middle. However, Margaret is the family name in this case, which means the middle name is wide open.
Which of these Margaret combinations would you pick, and why?
Margaret Beatrix
Margaret Iris
Margaret Sylvia
Margaret Georgia
Margaret Helen (this is the reversal of my mom's name, Helen Margaret)
Margaret Zoe
Margaret Esme
Any suggestions? We want a fairly unique middle name. For an idea of our taste, the other combinations we like are:
Elspeth Naomi
Julia Meredith (I'm trying to sell DH on Sylvia Meredith though)
Ezra Burkhart
Asher Leo
Jonas Andrew

Is there a box for "All of the Above?"
Margaret is such a terrific name. It runs the gamut from meat-and-potatoes sensible to lady-of-the-manor refinement. And the nn possibilites are endless.
From your list, if I have to choose, Margaret Helen gets my vote just to see the look on your mother's face when she learns. :-) Margaret Elena would be s nifty twist if you're still not settled.
I try to avoid using Georgia in the mn position. Margaret Georgia sound more like a place than a name. [But I'm odd that way. It may come from the fact that here in Washington State (U.S.) we have a town named George, Washington.]
Personally, Margaret Alice is my favorite combo. Margaret Cecily and Margaret Eleanor round out my Tudor Megs nicely.

I see your point about Margaret Georgia. My main critique of it is not that it sounds like a city, but that the gret-Geor flow is a bit harsh. Georgia would be after my father-in-law, George, though, so it would get double points for family names.
Margaret Elena is nice! As are Margaret Alice, Margaret Eleanor, and Margaret Cecily. Margaret Cecilia could be nice too. I know DH and I both like Cecilia.

Thanks! I'm glad you like Julia Meredith :) I go back and forth between loving it and thinking it's a weird juxtaposition.
Margaret Ruth was my grandmother's name. I love Lydia, Judith, Alice, and Elsa as mn ideas! I know DH loves Lydia too... and hates Judith. You win some, you lose some, haha. My name is Allison Margaret, though, so Margaret Alice is a bit too much after me, and Elspeth is the second in line for daughters' names, so Margaret Elsa is a little too close to that. But I love both combos anyway!

I like Margaret Esme the best followed by Margaret Iris. Julia Meredith is also very nice. I like it better than Sylvia Meredith. And since you like Ezra and Asher, might I suggest Ezra Asher? :D That's one of my favorite combos at the moment. I do like Asher Leo. Ezra and Jonas are great names but I don't like the middle names you have picked.
All the middle names in our combinations (other than Margaret's, obviously) are family names. I'm not a fan of Burkhart either, but DH insists (it's a family name for him, and his mn). I like Andrew, but I'm not sure I'd pick it as a mn for Jonas if I were choosing from an unlimited set. Leo is after my grandfather whom I love dearly, and who also, fortunately, has an awesome name.
We're planning on using Margaret for our first daughter too!
Margaret Beatrix - It's nice. Beatrix gives it an edgy feel.
Margaret Iris - This is darling and gorgeous.
Margaret Sylvia - I don't really feel Sylvia fitting with Margaret.
Margaret Georgia - Nice. I like the feel of it.
Margaret Helen - It's okay... Helen makes it a little flat.
Margaret Zoe - Definitely modernizes it, but Zoe seems so ditzy to me.
Margaret Esme - Not a fan of Esme(e), but it sounds alright.
My favorite combo is probably Margaret Iris.
Suggestions...
Margaret Agatha
Margaret Amelia
Margaret Audrey
Margaret Dinah
Margaret Effie
Margaret Eve
Margaret Fenella / Finola
Margaret Genevieve
Margaret Georgina
Margaret Honora (the reverse of this is a favorite combo of mine)
Margaret Maeve
Margaret Miriam
Margaret Olwen
Margaret Shoshannah
Margaret Vivian

Margaret Beatrix is lovely; I'm not a Beatrice fan and don't like Beatrix in first name spot, but in this combo it looks and sounds quite special - I love it.
Margaret Sylvia - my second choice. I've always admired Sylvia, and think it deserves a revival.
Margaret Helen - lovely and classic, but you might consider Margaret Eleanor (with its medieval regal feel) or Margaret Elinor

Of your choices, I favor Margaret Sylvia.
For myself, I like Margaret Olivia and Margaret Susannah.

Of the names on your girl list, I like Margaret Georgia, Margaret Helen (better still, Margaret Helena) and Margaret Zoe. My fave Margaret combos are Margaret Susanna (because Susanna balances the stateliness of Margaret) and Margaret Eve.
I also like Julia Meredith because it's classic and flows so well. Asher Leo is nice too. I adore Leo.

The ones I would consider, with comments:
Margaret Beatrix- This is good.
Margaret Iris- Love it.
Margaret Sylvia- I love this one too.
Margaret Georgia- Like it.
Margaret Helen- Good. So is Margaret Helena, although that wouldn't be exactly the name reversed.
Margaret Elodie, Margaret Eloise, Margaret Ariel maybe?
Oh and it you don't end up using Sylvia or Iris as a mn, you should totally add Sylvia Iris to the list! Unless it has too many i's and s's, which it might...

Sylvia Iris is gorgeous! But neither one of those is a family name, so it probably wouldn't make the final cut. Both DH and I find it meaningful to have family middle names (mine's Margaret and his is Burkhart) so we want pass on the tradition.
I like Margaret Eloise. Thanks for the suggestions!

Typo alert!
I just thought I would mention now that you have a typo on your last sentence that is err...a bit anatomical. :)

I like your style! Very nice. I would say that Margaret Sylvia and Margaret Beatrix are the best options. Margaret Sylvia is the one I would choose but I think a more modern looking option would be Margaret Beatrix. While I like Margaret Helen I think it would be wierd to have a name reversal. Margaret Iris is nice, though I would much prefer it Iris Margaret and therefore it is out of the running for me.
