[Opinions] Re: All this talk about nicknames gets me thinking...
Gabriel is lovely, but Ellie as a nickname? No way, and especially not on a boy!

Isn't Eli in a lot of places pronounced like Ellie? And that's a boy's name. And Ellie is used as a nickname for Elliot sometimes I'm sure.ETA: Elie Wiesel is a famous author.

My grandfather was named Elieprn like Ellie. I don't think it was ever a problem for him, as far as I know.

Exactly!Elie Wiesel (Pronounced ELLIE) is very important, and a meaningful author to me, it makes me love Elie for a boy! It's a bit of a stretch for Gabriel, but doable. I adore Elie for an Elliot.
