Message: "Zipporah?" - Behind the Name

My boyfriend, James, and I are expecting a daughter in November and we have fallen in love with the name Zipporah. We had decided on naming her that, and went to tell my mother. She said "EW! Zipporah? What are you going to call her, Zippy? That is a horrible, ugly name and I won't call her that"

Now we're still seriously considering Zipporah but don't have a middle name for her, we were thinking Zipporah Rosaleen, but IDK. Any other nickname ideas for Zipporah that my mom could call her, or do you think she'll warm up to the name??

If you actually anme your daughter Zipporah then I'm sure she'll warm up to the name. I actually like this name, though I wouldn't use it personally.

I love the name Zipporah and definitely think you should use it. It's classic and has a lot of history yet it's unusual. If you really love it, you should use it. Over time your mom will get used to it and grow to love it because it's her granddaughter's name.

Zipporah is a beautiful name. Everyone has different tastes in names. But I am sure your mom will get used to the name eventually. Zipporah Rosaleen is nice. Also, Zipporah Rosalind would be nice or Rosalyn. I also like Zipporah Eden.

I don't like Zipporah. It's fairly popular on these boards, but I don't understand the attraction, personally.
