The name Dashiell has really been growing on me lately and might make its way onto my list for future children.. wdyt??

I like it a lot, esp. with the nn Dash. But I don't know that I'd ever have the guts to use it. :b

I think of Dashiell Hammett. The name reminds me thoroughly of The Maltese Falcon, which is an awesome film. So for me, Dashiell conjures up Humphrey Bogart, smoky broads, and danger.
It's a very cool name. It's also a name that's now tied to The Incredibles, a movie I did not enjoy nearly as much as The Maltese Falcon. Dashiell's now a name that's very exposed, and I wouldn't be surprised if it became popular.
All the same, I do really like it. The Maltese Falcon is a classic movie, and one that makes me think of my father--and so I'd use it for him as much as for the writer. I'd love to meet a little Dashiell.

No combos as of yet.. I am pregnant with baby #3 right now and he will be little Wyatt.. but I really like the name Dashiell and hubby actually likes it to!! (surprise, surprise)

I think it's a nice name but something i wouldn't choose if i had a kid right now. Isn't it the name of Cate Blanchett's son (sorry I'm not very in touch with celebrity gossip)?

Do you know what Dashiell means? It's not on this website. And, if it's pronounced the way I think it is, I really don't like it.

I haven't found a meaning.. but found the name while reading a magazine.. from what I understand it is pronounced Dash-ell

I quite like it, but wouldn't use it as a fn myself. It runs the risk of 'Is your son named after Dashiell Hammett?'-type comments (or worse, Minority Report references). I can see its potential as middle name though.
