[Opinions] Re: Lucifer
in reply to a message by namebug
Lucifer used to be one of my favourites. I think it's absolutely beautiful. Obviously, though, I'd never use it.
I feel the same way about Orchid. I think it would make a great name if it didn't mean what it did.
Claudia doesn't actually have that bad of a meaning. There's nothing inherently bad about feebleness and/or immobility.
I wish Narcissa and Narcissus had better meanings. I think they're so incredibly gorgeous. Sigh.
Ulysses possibly means "to hate", which obviously is a terrible meaning, but I get past it easily because A) it's only a possible meaning and B) it has incredible associations.
I would say that Algernon is deceptive, but I happen to think that "having a moustache" is by far the coolest meaning any name could ever have EVER.

"Having a moustache" is an awesome meaning!
Also, what does Orchid mean? I think it's a beautiful name, but is the meaning really that bad?

"Testicles"
Does it really mean that? How do you know that?
yes sadly it does

c
why?
because the flowers that were named for it, part of their shape looks like testicles so they say, but IMO they don't.
from wikipedia.org:
"Orchis is a genus in the orchid family (Orchidaceae). This genus gets its name from the Greek όρχις orchis, meaning "testicle", from the appearance of the paired subterranean tuberoids"
Orchid is also a color though, and doesn't have anything to do with the flowers.

Yeah, but purple has rather sexual connotations if you ask me, doesn't it? And orchid is purple.
