It is 1925.
The past few years have been busy for the Montgomery family, and now only one child remains at home with Clara. Matthew was killed by the explosion of some gunpowder he and his friends were messing around with. One other friend was killed and two were wounded. The family was devastated by the loss, but are moving on with life. Because she no longer has five boys at home to worry about, Clara has taken the job of local schoolteacher. She teaches the lower elementary grades and enjoys her work immensely. William, her youngest, is very lost without his older brothers around, and he communicates with them via letter weekly. He is growing up quickly and promises to be a fine young man.
Alice and Edward are doing well. Edward is in the freighting business, and the company he works for is doing well, though he is often absent for long periods of time on journeys. Alice is a good mother to her children, 5-year-old David, 3-year-old Walter, and 1-year-old Dolly.
Neither Henry or Andy is married, but they are living together and both working in the law enforcement field. Henry still works for the mounted police unit in New York City. Andy has landed his dream job with the FBI, and uses Henry's house as a home base, though he spends a lot of time both in Washington DC and traveling the country as a special agent.
Joey leads a very busy life. In addition to going to medical school, he works as much as possible at a pawn shop and has a small family. Last summer he married a girl he met three years ago. He and Leah have a daughter, Elsie who is several months old. They just found out that they are expecting a second child as well.
