Life thus far: Melinda has had a challenging life so far. She grew up with her grandma (her single mother died when Melinda was young) in a small rural town in the middle of nowhere. Now she lives alone in a dingy apartment in the middle of a dangerous bustling city, with only dollars to her name and the dream of an art career and scholarship to get her through the hectic days and lonely nights. She is 18 years old.
