Despite the passage of just one year, much has happened in the kingdom of Esterfield. The war with Ashora has been narrowly averted, through many gifts from King Robert and the marrying of one of his cousins, the Marquess of Archbury. To fill her stead, King Robert has given her title to the former Princess Alice as a wedding present. Although Alice now lives in Lowton with her artist husband, Francois, she enjoys still having a title of some sort. In other news, Crown Prince Octavian and his wife Oceane have welcomed a little boy! Now that there is someone to carry on the royal line, Octavian feels ready to succeed his father to the throne--though he isn't asking for his death or anything. The new little prince is named Marcus Aurelien Lothair.
Meanwhile, Alice and Francois have welcomed a daughter. They named her Violet Aurelia Anastasia, choosing the first name Violet because it is one of Alice's favorite colors to paint with. Francois agreed, and has suggested that they give their daughter a royal-sounding name even though she will never be in line for the throne.
Princess Beth and Prince Titus did not have a child, but they are enjoying spending time alone, getting to know each other.
Sad news of Henrik. He passed away this year after falling from his horse and striking his head on a rock. The entire kingdom mourned the loss of Prince Henrik, especially the girl King Robert had picked out to be his wife, a young princess from Portway.
Princesses Helen and Sarah are doing well, considering their circumstances. Princess Helen has been writing a book of poems that she wishes to publish and Princess Sarah has been steadily improving after her fall in the river, though she still needs some assistance with her daily activities.
Prince Laurent was very upset at Henrik's death and has become a morose and melancholy boy. He spends most of his days playing sad songs on his violin or his newfound favorite instrument, the pan flute.
