The kingdom of Esterfield has undergone some changes in the past year. King Robert and Queen Amelie are doing well. The bandit situation is finally under control, and the entire kingdom is at peace--at least, for now. There are rumors of an impending war with the kingdom of Ashora following Princess Alice's abdication and refusal to marry the Crown Prince of Ashora. Two weeks before the marriage, Princess Alice announced that she was giving up her rights to the throne, should anything happen to Crown Prince Octavian. Alice has found a fellow artist from a faraway land that she wishes to marry. King Robert has not given his consent, but Alice has decided to pursue the marriage anyway. Her fiancee is Francois Cesare, from the kingdom of Lowton. They are planning to be married within the month, then Alice will move away to live with Francois and follow her lifelong dream of becoming an artist.
Princess Beth also has plans to marry this year. Her fiancee is the youngest Prince of Elam, Titus Valentin Olivier Toussaint. She loves her life as royalty and would never consider abdicating, as her sister did. Princess Beth and Prince Titus are set to become Duke and Duchess of Moorland, Highpoint, and the surrounding country in Elam. This marriage promises good relations between Elam and Esterfield.
Prince Henrik is still full of energy, and he would rather be out riding his horse or practicing his archery than studying with his tutors. King Robert has begun to scout around for suitable girls for his second son to marry.
Princesses Helen and Sarah are doing all right, though they have had their share of trouble. Princess Helen has always remained weak and sickly, much to King Robert's chagrin. However, Sarah has been the object of recent concern. After taking a fall in the river, she developed an infection and a fever that raged for several days. She has survived, but seems to have suffered some brain damage, and even simple tasks are difficult for her. Helen and Sarah spend most of their time together, and Helen reads to Sarah.
Prince Laurent is as wild and outgoing as his older brother Henrik. He has, however, expressed a great interest in music. He has gained much skill in the piano and the violin already and wishes to learn other instruments.
