Yes it's derived from testicle, but who cares? Not many people know that as far as I know. I think it's nice on a boy (might work bette ron one cause the meaning, LOL) too.

isn't it? Obviously some do care. I like that I learn things from this board and I also share back what I little I know. Lots of meanings don't deter me but this bally one does, a lot. Not everyone is going to be swayed by the same meaning and/or associations - orchidectomy, testicles, what have you.

speaking for myself, I try to dig into the deep etymological meanings of my names; I wouldn't be satisfied knowing "orchid" referred to the plant orchid, but would try to find out where it came from.
Then again, I don't know how awful it would be to be able to go around and say "My name means balls." Could be kind of awesome.
