The royal doctors were surprised to find that the queen was carrying twins, after asserting throughout her pregnancy that she was having just one child, a boy. Instead: one boy and one girl, although the girl, Iphigenia, seems to be sickly and may not surive. For now, the doctors are watching her.
The kingdom seems to be warming up to Kalliope, although there are some who remain attached to the old queen and therefore resent the new one.
King Maximilian is beginning to think about arranging a marriage for his oldest daughter, Augusta, who is now ten years old. He still has a few years, but he wants to find a good husband for her and so believes he should start looking immediately. Augusta herself has not yet found out about this.
