Marigold is whimsical but at the same time it isn't exactly off the wall either. I prefer it to many standard floral names such as Rose and Violet probably because I love the name Mary and Goldie is too awesome a pet name to pass up. It has also been used more than people think but it's definitely still quite unfamiliar to most as a name which is a shame.
I think it's light, warm and sprightly. I love Frances although dislike the Churchill reference purely because little Marigold died so young. Lucy would be my first choice.
