King Oliver's and Queen Oriana's heads are still slightly befuddled at the change in circumstance that has happened within the last year. Last year, at this time, Oliver was the youngest of 4 brothers, all of whom would inherit over him if something were to happen to the King (his uncle), the crown-prince, or his father. Being seventh in line for the throne, he never even considered it a real possibility.
Last year, he moved to a distant family holding to "learn how to manage his future estate". However, the real reason was Oriana. Oriana was a minor lady from a neighboring kingdom. She spent much of her childhood running around with Oliver as her father did business with his father. And then, one summer she came back a women. The two fell madly in love, and planned to marry.
However, Oliver's father was unhappy with this situation and Oriana's lack of status, and refused consent. Oliver was sent to the far reaches of the kingdom to keep them apart. Oriana was just as in love with Oliver as he was with her, and stole the secret of where he was hidden from Oliver's father's diary. She sold her meager assortment of jewels and traveled to the faraway estate.
Once there, the two were happily reunited. The local's had no clue that Oriana was the reason for Oliver being sent there (as his father wanted to keep it under wraps), and were happy to see the young love. Within a matter of months, the two were married by a local priest.
That's when tragedy happened. The royal hunting party was attacked by a band of assassins. The king, Oliver's father, and 3 brother's were all killed. The crown prince was mortally wounded. The remaining guards were able to get the crown prince back to the castle, where he met with his council of Royal Advisors and declared Oliver his heir.
Unfortunately, the crown prince died before Oliver could arrive at the castle. After a state funeral, Oliver was crowned King, and Oriana was recognized as his Queen (mainly because she was already 7 months pregnant and there was no graceful way to force the two apart at this point!).
Now, the two are trying to learn what it will take to rule and kingdom, to be parents, and to find out who sent the assassins to attack the royal family. However, the two have a strong partnership and are young and ready for the hard work. Things seem positive... for now...
