Well I used to not even turn when my full name, Kimberly, was called. More and more of my teachers are using it so I'm getting used to it but I can't imagine not having a nickname, Kimberly seems like it could be a mouthful at times when someone just wants to be like "hey Kim," I always give characters in my stories nicknames for close friends and family.
Potential kid names:
Soren - Generally I'd call him this, maybe say Sor here and there but not as an official nickname.
Jude - Can't really shorten this or make it cute. Judie is a girl's name, definitely wouldn't call him that.
Mary - Mare? Again, not an official nickname, just maybe I'm calling her/doing something nickname.
Rosamund - I'd most definitely call her Rose (Rosie as a kid)
Seraphina / Serafina - I want to call her Fina or even Sera wouldn't bother me. She could be exposed to both and choose.
