[Opinions] Re: Nicknames

I'm not fond of nicknames. I just don't like the idea of giving a child one name and then call him/her by another. The occasional nickname calling is ok and I think every parent/friend/relative does it, it's when parents never use the child's real name it annoys me.
I'm one of those who hate Alex as a nickname for Alexander. I wouldn't use a nickname for Alexander which is why I prefer Alexander as a middle name. None of my favorite names need a nickname and I definitely don't plan on using one but I guess there will be some nicknames used for thse names anyway. It's just not something I sit down and plan like "I'm going to use Eleanora, should I use Ellie or Nora?" I don't get people who constantly ask for nicknames as if you have to have a nickname for every name. What's wrong with calling a child by its full name?
