1) I am not a fan of Raquel. I don't like the Rack "sound" and it sounds a bit trashy to me - solely because of Raquel Welch.
2) Why not? Especially if you are persistent in introducing yourself to new people as Raquel. My husband's cousin decided she wanted to be Charlotte and it stuck, in a surprisingly short while too. I have a friend Mary Eleanor who went by her second name her whole life and she decided to go by Mary when she moved here. Everyone in Ireland knows her as Mary and everyone in her home place knows her as Ellie.
