[Opinions] Miriam?
1. What do you think of the name Miriam?
I always thought it was a tad dowdy, probably because I know one or two grandmotherly ladies with this name. But I like the fact that it is related to the name Mary.2. Do you prefer any other forms of the name: Maryam , Miryam , Myriam , Mariam ?DH and I had both agreed on Mariah as a FN for our first DD one day, but I am rethinking this because I hope to be able to use Cecelia (honoring) as a mn, and I realize we may only have 1 chance to use it... and Mariah Cecelia is a little too much together, I guess. So, what do you think of Miriam Cecelia? Do you prefer it to Mariah as a FN? I had not settled on a Mariah combo, but probably Mariah Faith or Mariah Therese, and then for a second DD something like Hope or Faith Cecelia. Thanks for your thoughts.

1. What do you think of the name Miriam?
I love the name! i dont think of it as an old lady name at all. I know a few little girls named Maryam at work (i work at an islamic school)2. Do you prefer any other forms of the name: Maryam , Miryam , Myriam , Mariam ?
My favorite spellings are Miriam and Maryam. I think I like Maryam the best tho.So, what do you think of Miriam Cecelia? Do you prefer it to Mariah as a FN?
Miriam Cecelia is pretty and yes i do prefer it to Mariah. Mariah is kind of awkward(sp?) for me to say i guess. it doesnt flow very well.

It's beautiful and elegant, I don't find it one bit dowdy. I prefer it to Mariah, it's more sophisticated, though I like Maria. Mariam is nice as well, but Miriam's better.Miriam Cecelia flows well enough, though I prefer Cecilia to Cecelia, but if it's honouring...

Miriam is beautiful! The original spelling is just fine. I love Miriam Cecelia. Also, for a nn, if you want one, you could use "Mim". I know a girl who goes by Mim, but her full name is Miriam.

Miriam is lovely. I don't find it dowdy or dated at all.
I prefer Miriam to Mariah.

Mariah will always be primarily associated with Mariah Carey wheras Miriam is a true classic that has stood the test of time, and is the name of one of the strong and talented women of antiquity - a great role model.
Although it means "bitter" this is interepreted in Jewish lore as "bitterly longed for child", which I think makes the name all the more wonderful.
I love it so much. It has a beautiful sound and is pretty to behold!I would love a baby named Miriam.
Miriam Cecilia is pretty, thouggh I have a taboo on Cecilia because it means "blind".
Miriam Leila is a combo I drool over.
Rosalind Miriam I like.

Although I prefer Mariam to Miriam, I definitely prefer Miriam to Mariah.

I like Miriam. One of my co-workers has a daughter aged 12 named Miriam.Don't care for the other forms of Miriam much. You didn't mention it but I can't resist mentioning how much I dislike Maren! The ones you do mention are OK, but it seems like they would just mean a lifetime of explaining the spelling of your daughter's name. With Miriam, most people would know how to spell it, I think.I like Miriam much better of Mariah, which just makes me think of Mariah Carey.

I LOVE Miriam, think it's gorgeous...and a MILLION times better than Mariah, which I so dislike, it's verging on hate.I only like the spelling Miriam, with the nickname Miri. Miriam Cecelia is soooooo beautiful, I seriously ♥♥♥♥ that combo!I say use Miriam Cecelia, and then if you have another, Hope/Faith Mariah!

What about Madeline? It has a similar meaning to Mary. I agree that Miriam sounds 'old lady' like and Mariah is totally overused but Mariah actually sounds great with Cecilia. Just picture yourslef yelling "Mariah Cecilia!"

I actually do like Madeline. I am not sure what DH thinks. But Madeline Cecelia would be pretty.
I have a little concern about our long last name (10 letters, and not really spelled phonetically), so I didn't want a FN that was also long.
Maybe Madelyn would be a nice slightly shorter variant.
My nephew in first grade had problems keeping up with classwork partially because he is still writing his name while everyone else is doing the work! But his first name only has 6 letters. Thanks for the suggestions!

I prefer Miriam to any of the other forms you listed. My first reaction was that it is indeed dowdy, and also prissy. But that's probably only because it was not at all popular in my age group, and I think of it as an old lady name. When I stop and listen to the sound of it, I realize that it's rather pretty. It may be ready for a comeback, and may be ready to shed some of those old connotations.

I think Miriam is very pretty. It strikes me more as timeless than old. I like Mariam. I waver on Maryam. It's the same as Mariam really, but it's got a Mary and a Yam in there, both of which sometimes give me pause. Miryam and Myriam don't appeal to me. I probably like Mariam a little more than I like Miriam, but I like them both very much.Miriam Cecelia is nicer than Mariah Cecelia, though neither is bad. I like Mariah Therese.

1. I think Miriam is old-fashioned, and I can't picture a little girl with the name.
2. No, not really.I don't think Mariah Cecilia is TOO bad. If the double "A" sounds bother you, you could always go with Mariah Cecille, or Mariah Cecily. Better yet, Mariah Celine...but if you don't want her to be compared to two divas, you can spell it Selene.Mariah Therese is also nice.
