This has always been one of my favorite French names. What do you think? I'm half French and the pronunciation wouldn't be a problem (well I'd have to correct people sometimes but most Germans speak a bit of French).
The pronunciation is oh-say-UHN, well the "say" sound is actually pronounced differently but I can't explain it better. The French é isn't exactly "ay".
The thing is that in France Océane is like the English Kayley. It's very trendy and not exactly a classic. It's also losing popularity and I'm almost certain it will sound dated. Should I use it anyway?
Do you prefer Oceana or just Ocean?

I like it, but I generally pronounce it O-shay-e/on. Bit off, yeah. (The e/o is a combination of those vowels, dont know how else to explain it.)
I think it's up to you if you want to use a name you know will sound dated. If you like it enough, why not?
I slightly prefer Ocean (would be more likely to use it), but on a boy. Only Océane on a girl.

I agree with you that Océane is the French Kayley. If you really love it though, go ahead and use it. Outside of Frace it's not very well known and probably won't be too big of an issue. If you're worried about it dating, why not use it in the middle? Ocean feels masculine to me, like River, so I would stick with the original Océane.

I love Océane and Augusta. They feel like such beautiful, natural, visual names. To me they evoke an earthy elegance that is full of life. Being in the US, I can't speak for them sounding dated, but I would say follow your heart, not the trends!

Océane has always seemed a bit tacky and contrived to my non-French ears. Contrived in the way as if someone went and thought, "Have to make up a name with 'ocean' in it, have to make up a name with 'ocean' in it!" While it is a legit name, I just can't shake that thought.
I'm not sure how much the trendy thing would be a problem. Outside of France, people would probably think it's a normal or classic French name. I don't know if you plan to live in France one day, but if you do, yeah, you might want to consider what associations it will have and whether it will sound dated.
