[Opinions] Favorite nickname as full name?
What are some of your favorite nicknames that you think would be great on their own and not just as nicknames? My favorite is Alec. It was once my favorite name for a boy and I still like it a lot. I'm not sure about girl nicknames though. Maybe Millie.

I have been thinking about Tom a lot lately and I would definitely consider using it on its own. A lot of people think nicknames are childish but I think Tom is much more grown-up sounding than Thomas. I find with a lot of names the full name is only used in childhood and then they switch to a nickname. For a girl I always preferred Cassie over Cassandra, but now I'm not sure. I'm going off the name Toby but I'd use that on its own. I wouldn't even consider it a nickname these days although many people on this board do.Alec works very well on its own. I don't think it needs to be a nickname. The same with Millie.I have a soft spot for names like Lizzie and Georgie for girls but I'd probably give them a full name for official purposes. I'm not sure.

LolaHypothetically. I could not and would never use a nickname as a full name. As much as I love Lola- and despise Dolores- I would give my daughter the latter name, always. The same with Jack and John, though the former is much better. (I know Jack may be considered a name in its on right, these days, but to me it'll always be a nn).

I like Alec and Millie as well. Alec I don't really see as a nn for some reason though, it is kind of like Jack or Elise- so established as a fn that it pretty much stands rightly on it's own now.I think my favourites would be Evey / Evie and Tessa for a girl and Charlie for a boy. Both of these I would use in a heartbeat if I thought they could really serve a child well right into adulthood on their own. Some days I toy with using any of them as full names and all of them have been in my top ten at one time or another but I doubt I would ever use them. Unfortunately I don't love the full versions of any of them as much as the nns

Alec is the only one I can think of right now, actually. I like it a thousand times better than Alexander. Just Al is sort of a GP for me but I wouldn't actually use it.

I love Alec, and it would be my favorite for boys too. For girls, Tess. I'd love to have a Tess.

I don't usually like nicknames as full names, but I do like Molly and Megan. There are some nicknames that I prefer to be used as nicknames, but wouldn't mind them as full names, like Nora and Jack.
