[Opinions] Idris and Aeolus
What do you think of the names? Is Idris too feminine (because you think of Iris)? Usable names?

I've never heard Aeolus, but it seems nice enough.I love Idris. It seems completely masculine to me. It's a family name.

Idris- I don't think of Iris at all, it's definitely not too feminine. I love the meaning! It's probably useable.Aeolus- I actually think Aiolos is easier to pronounce intuitively... The meaning and history are great. I really like it, though not as much as Idris. It should probably just be a mn though.

Idris - I actually really like this name, and gave it to a character in my Harry Potter fan fic lol I'd consider it irl because it's not super unusual, just more old-timey if anything. The only Idris's I've met are really old men, though one of my friend's in England said he has a cousin with this name. I think it's cool, and I don't think of "Iris" at all. It's attractive.Aeolus - Reminds me big-time of the tv show Hercules because I used to watch it all the time! I like the name a lot - it's fun to say - and my best friend, who is Greek, says she's met people in Greece with this name so it's still used somewhere! I think though that outside of Greece, a more anglicised spelling might be necessary if you want people to pronounce it right :/ In summary, lol, I like them both!

I like Idris, depending on enunciation. The meaning (in either Arabic or Welsh) is really awesome.I'm not sure how to pronounce Aeolus, exactly, but I don't like the look of it anyhow. I think they're both usable. There is a British actor called Idris [Elba, from The Wire].

Once or twice. I was all about Xena. ;)Thanks. The naming guide [here] confused me. I wasn't sure about the... upside down "e". =P

Same here! I don't know anyone (aside from Bastien here on the boards) that knows how to read those proper pronunciation guides! I wouldn't have known how it was said if I hadn't heard it :/ I wish we had the little sound bites, for each name, so that we could hear how they were said!And... yah, Zena > Hercules most definitely, but the latter always showed just before the former so I watched them both lol
ETA: One of the best things about those shows were the cool names! Iolaus, Callisto, etc lol
